Your family’s story began with someone who made the decision to leave their home, cross borders, and set sail for an unknown continent, without knowing what awaited them on the other side of the ocean.

But where did they come from, and what family did they leave behind?

Through genealogical research in Austria, your ancestor’s life before emigration becomes visible again.

Below is an example of the type of report you will receive at the end of the research process.

Research in Austrian archives

I work with original records and archival sources from Austria, including parish registers (Kirchenbücher), Austrian civil registration records, and documentation preserved in regional archives (Landesarchive).

Many immigrants who arrived in the United States came from different regions of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, whose borders and jurisdictions changed over time. After the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the border changes of the twentieth century, some records from regions that today belong to Austria may be written in Hungarian. Understanding these historical changes is essential for locating the correct documents.

I work directly with historical records in German and Latin, including handwritten documents in old German script (Kurrent), allowing genealogical research in Austria to be based on original sources.
