Your family’s story began with someone who made the decision to leave their home, cross borders, and set sail for an unknown continent, without knowing what awaited them on the other side of the ocean.
But where did they come from, and what family did they leave behind?
Through genealogical research in Hungary, your ancestor’s life before emigration becomes visible again.

Below is an example of the type of report you will receive at the end of the research process.
Research in Hungarian Archives
The research is based on original records preserved in Hungary, including parish registers (anyakönyvek) and civil registry records, which were introduced in 1895. Before that year, births, marriages, and deaths were documented exclusively in church registers.
Due to the border changes of the 20th century, some historical localities of the former Kingdom of Hungary today belong to other countries. In addition to civil and parish records, numerous historical Hungarian newspapers have been digitized, allowing the research to be expanded with social context and additional family references.
For this reason, I work directly with original documentation in Hungarian and Latin, conducting genealogical research in Hungary based strictly on primary sources.

How it works
-
1. You provide the basic information
You share your ancestor’s name, place of birth (as precisely as possible), approximate date of birth (if known), and religion. -
2. I review the available sources
I check whether suitable historical records exist in Hungarian archives and databases. -
3. Confirmation and agreement
I inform you whether sufficient records are available to conduct documented research. The process continues only once you confirm that you would like to proceed. -
4. Research and documentation
I carry out the genealogical research in Hungary and document all sources used, including references to the original records. -
5. Payment and delivery of results
Once the research is completed and payment is received, you will receive the full report by email, including the relevant documents and explanations.

About me

I am Zuzana Bodnárová, a genealogical researcher specializing in Hungary. I help families reconstruct the history of their ancestors who emigrated from Hungary.
Since 2017, I have worked with historical records and original archival sources, conducting research both for private clients and for a published book (Frida, by Norwegian author Nina F. Grünfeld).
I have lived and worked in several Central European countries and currently reside in Austria. Hungarian is my mother tongue, which allows me to read historical documents in their original language and work directly with local archives and records, including Latin when necessary. I also speak Spanish and English for client communication.
I personally understand what it means to live far from one’s country of origin while maintaining a connection to family history. That is why I know how important it is to recover these roots.
More than data. A family story.
